The price of the RTX 4080 has been revealed: It can strain your wallet
The RTX 4080 will launch on November 16, and some retailers have listed it with a price tag - some with pretty high prices.

The RTX 4080 now has an official price. Nvidia has updated its english website and now it gives concrete facts. That’s how it should start, with a graphics card starting at €1,469. Looking at it right now, no one has seen the RTX 4080 at any of the online retailers, but you can already find what you’re looking for in various international stores.
Some models come pretty close to the US retail price of $1,199, while others come so far that they even surpass the RTX 4090’s MSRP.
Initial prices of the RTX 4080
American online retailer Newegg has briefly listed prices for an RTX 4080 from manufacturer PNY. Sometimes, it’s even advertised at an MSRP of $1,199. The ad has since been updated and the price tags removed. At least there is hope of buying the graphics card at Nvidia’s suggested price.
On our side of the big pond you can find the first offers on the Danish ProShop website. The good news: In the online store, cards from various manufacturers are listed with their prices.
The bad news: The cheapest model from the manufacturer Inno3D costs 12,190 Danish crowns, or 1,638.52 euros. ASUS’ most expensive model comes in at 14,690 kroner, or €1,974.56 (exchange rates as of November 3). That’s more than Nvidia’s suggested retail price of €1,949 for the RTX 4090.
With the latest chip shortage crisis, Nvidia and AMD have realized that people are willing to throw huge sums of money on the table for high-end graphics cards. Although the RTX 4090 was very expensive, it sold out in a short time. I think the situation will be no different with the RTX 4080.
With the RTX 4090, Nvidia pushed the upper class a bit higher, and AMD seems to be following the same strategy as the RX 7900 XTX. Having more options is primarily positive, but I hope the price increases do not spread to the mid and low ranges.
Personally, I’m not happy with the price development, but I’m not surprised either. With a little patience, the prices of the 4000 series will also decrease. If you want to get new high-end graphics cards early, unfortunately you have to be prepared to pay four-digit amounts right now.
