Starfield now confirms that many gamers are scared
A smooth transition between space and planets will not be possible. Lead developer Todd Howard believes it "isn't that important to gamers."

Everyone is talking about the new Bethesda game Starfield. Who hasn’t dreamed of a Skyrim-like game that allows us to seamlessly explore the cosmos and enjoy the unlimited open world?
However, the open world is not as seamless as players would like it to be. One feature won’t come into play: the smooth transition between space and planets.
Bethesda lead developer Todd Howard confirmed this in an interview with IGN: “People are asking, ‘Can you get the spaceship straight to the planet?’ no, we decided early on that the surface is one reality and space is another.”
This is how Howard justified the decision
According to Howard, it wasn’t worth the time and effort. He thinks this is “not that important to players”.
“That’s why we prefer to make sure it’s great on the surface and great in space, and these realities look and play out as well as they can,” Howard says. Said.
Other games like No Man’s Sky, Elite: Dangerous, and Star Citizen have shown what a smooth transition between space and planets can look like. But while these are all simulations, or at least simulation approaches, Starfield becomes a classic role-playing game. It is not yet clear how long the animation and potential loading times will be.
