Phil Spencer: Game Sales Outside of Game Pass Still Matter
Phil Spencer made important statements about Xbox Game Pass during an interview and now talked about the future of Game Pass.

It’s no secret that Xbox Game Pass has been a real success. This service gives you access to a very large library of (known) games and offers it at a very attractive price. You will almost forget that you can buy games ‘normally’ on Xbox other than Game Pass. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, addressed this issue in a recent interview with Sarah Bond.
It’s no secret that Xbox Game Pass has been a real success. This service gives you access to a very large library of (known) games and offers it at a very attractive price. You will almost forget that you can buy games ‘normally’ on Xbox other than Game Pass. Phil Spencer, president of Xbox, addressed this issue in a recent interview with Sarah Bond.
But that doesn’t change the fact that the success of Xbox Game Pass continues to be surprisingly good. According to Bond, a game added to the service would be played on average eight times more often than if the game was not currently part of the service. In addition, these games are played for a longer time. Spencer is therefore very proud and content with the current situation.
“I’m incredibly proud of the role Game Pass can play not only in [Xbox’s] great first-party games, but in indie games and great games that people play.”
A comparison has also been made with services like Netflix, but according to Spencer, Xbox Game Pass is still its own entity.
“This is where I sometimes compare with his music, his videos, other forms of media; Basically I believe that one strength for us in the video game business is the diversity of business models and their strength. […] At the Xbox team, we invest and develop the business models that the developers want.”
